About the editors:
Harvey Kurtzman is the internationally acclaimed creator of Mad magazine, Trump, Humbug, Help and Little Annie Fanny. As an editor, writer and cartoonist, he forged a new style of satire and graphic parody that transformed the American comic book into an adult vehicle for humor. Among the talents he nurtured are Terry Gilliam of Monty Python; Gloria Steinem of Ms; Will Elder, Jack Davis and Wally Wood of Mad; Gilbert Sheldon, Robert Crumb and Stout of the underground comics movement; and hundreds of students at New York’s School of Visual Arts, where he continues to give a highly esteemed course in cartooning. His work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of Art, and he has been featured in Newsweek, The New York Times, and Esquire, for whom he worked as a cartoon editor. He is the inventor of Alfred E. Newman. He currently resides in New York with his wife, Adele, and one teenage daughter-in-residence, Nellie.

Byron Preiss is the author of One Year Affair, the long-running comic strip that was featured in National Lampoon and published as a book by Workman Publishing. In addition to other features for Lampoon, he has written and edited the graphic story revue Fiction Illustrated, authored the satirical Not the Webster’s Dictionary (With Michael Sorkin) and the official biography of The Beach Boys (St. Martin’s Press).

Sarah Downs is the co-author of Betsy’s Buddies with Harvey Kurtzman. Her lucid and charming comics illustrations have been exhibited at the Museum of Cartoon Art. She currently resides in Bronxville, New York, with her husband, Russ Reader, an attorney.

Last image is an unpublished piece by Downs for the book Harvey Kurtzman’s Strange Adventures (Marvel).
